2 easy weekend projects – video tutorial

Do you need a quick project that doubles up as a great handmade gift? What about these 2 sewing projects?

These make great gifts for teachers or friends. Why not making them as Christmas gifts?

What you need

My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

I have done 4 iPad stands or bean bags so far:  one using the leg of a pair of jeans, one with patchwork, a simple one using some embellishments and another one with hand painted fabric.

Make this stand using the leg of a pair of jeans and a pretty button or other embellishment. Watch  this short 4 minute video to learn how to make it.

iPad stands

Patchwork iPad stand

This tablet stand uses 5 inch charm squares. Useful when you have fabric scraps from other projects. Make an iPad stand to match your quilt!

iPad beanbag

This is an even simpler beanbag. It uses just a piece of fabric folded in half and stuffed with batting or polyfill. I added a little flower at the back just for fun.

For this stand the fabric has been hand painted with Inktense blocks and a black Sharpie. Derwent Inktense blocks are supposed to be colourfast but I won’t wash the stand just in case.
