Hexagon block with partial seams – video tutorial

This hexagon block is great to use your fabric scraps. It can be made at any size.

As well as making a beautiful block you’ll learn to sew partial seams. Partial seams look tricky but they’re actually really easy to sew.

Let’s get to it!

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

Improv RAW EDGE/CRUMB QUILTING paper piecing video tutorial

raw edge improv
I finished this improv piece of raw edge/crumb quilting/whatever this may be called if it’s already got a name.

It’s 10″ x 10″ and I quite liked the process.

I haven’t washed it yet but I’m pretty sure it’ll hold fine, the quilting is 1/4″ apart.

Using fusible interfacing and a bit of glue works fine. If you’re worried about glue in your machine you can use applique glue. Or just use a knitting needle or some other tool to help the loose bits of fabric that aren’t stuck to the interfacing to go under the foot of the machine.

I’m now keeping almost every single bit of fabric. I do quite a bit of foundation piecing so there’s always odd bits of fabric that are quite hard to recycle…. until now!

Maybe you’re interested but don’t quite like the raw edge? Check these improv tutorials.

Foundation piecing pineapple block – video tutorial

Today’s block is a very popular Pineapple block. I’ve meant to do a foundation piecing block for a while so here it is.

The block is 7″ x 7″ finished.

Template

Foundation piecing paper

I used regular copy paper but you may find it to be a bit thick.

You can use special paper for foundation piecing if you prefer.

Foundation paper ruler

Note: I recently started to use an Add a quarter ruler, the yellow ruler in the video, after some followers recommended it and I have to say it’s a true time saver.

AccuQuilt

I was very lucky to receive an AccuQuilt GO! with an 8″ Qube and Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day book of patterns.

I had considered purchasing one for a while but I was undecided. Having used one I really like it. It’s fast and accurate which makes it a joy to use.
