Fez-tastic star quilt pattern – Morocco series

Fez-tastic quilt pattern

I created a tutorial for a block based on the beautiful eight-pointed star pattern that I often saw on footpaths in Morocco.

This star block is incredibly versatile. By experimenting with colors and the orientation of the block, you can create a variety of unique patterns.

I made the block using foundation piecing, but I’ve also included traditional paper templates. This way, you can still make the quilt using the classic sewing method if you prefer.

I hope you enjoy it!

Fez-tastic quilt pattern

Fez-tastic is a pattern for a quilt in 2 sizes:

  • a 20″ x 20″ mini quilt, demonstrated on the video, and
  • a 50″ x 60″ lap quilt in the same colour scheme.

The pattern includes:

  • fabric needs for a quilt in 2 sizes in the colours demonstrated on the video
  • foundation piecing templates
  • traditional template pieces
  • alternative colour schemes
  • alternative on point layouts
  • colouring diagrams to make the quilt horizontally or on point

The block construction is demonstrated on video only. An internet connection is required.

  1. So happy you created this pattern! I have purchased and will be blowing it up, because I need the central octagon to be 12″. For at least 18 months, I have been looking for a unique pattern to make a quilt for my son, using the Dragons panel and coordinating fabrics from In the Beginning Fabrics. I will now be able to create a beautiful quilt for next Christmas.

    Thank you! Katie Steele

  2. Love the pattern, it’s the first foundation piercing I have tried. However, is there a mistake with the block assembly? Pieces F1/2 appear twice and I think one should be labeled E1/2/3. Also are blocks A and B meant to be identical or mirror images? Thanks

  3. You’re right Heather, it’s E1, E2 and E3. Thank you very much for pointing it out. I’ll correct. Both blocks are identical. The only change is one of the blocks has different point colours for the inner star.
