What size would I have to cut my starting square for a finished 12″ with 1/4″ seem allowance? I’m new and would love to make this, I just dont know how to do the math for sizing. Thank you

I’m sorry I don’t have any formula for this.

The challenge with the math here is that taking the square on the “straight” and then cutting on the diagonal the length of the side of the resulting HST is some multiple of the square root of two which is not a very convenient number = 1.4142135…….. Add in the fact that you have two internal seams, plus your completed block seam allowance all around and it becomes rather daunting. I had looked at trying to combine these blocks with other (non-disappearing) blocks and abandoned the idea
