Pickle Dish is a traditional block with strong vintage roots. Its curved arcs and circular movement give it a similar feel to the classic Double Wedding Ring, but with a sharper, more graphic look thanks to the pointed “spikes” along the curve.
I based my demo block on a vintage quilt and chose red, blue and white to highlight that timeless style and show off the contrast in the arcs.
At first glance, Pickle Dish can seem challenging because of the curves and those spiky segments. The key is foundation piecing the spiky curved unit. This keeps everything accurate and crisp, and removes much of the stress from the process.
Once those units are complete, the rest of the block comes together with traditional piecing. Take it step by step and you’ll find it’s far more manageable than it looks — and well worth the effort.
This pattern is the Tier 3 free quilt pattern for March 2026, available to my Patreon Tier 3 members during that month.
