How to make the most versatile quilt block

Most versatile block

If there’s one block I keep coming back to again and again, it’s the humble triangle in a square. It sounds simple — and it is — but the design possibilities are truly endless!

This block first captured my imagination when I was working on my book Turnabout Patchwork. I designed four quilts around it, and while they were ultimately cut from the final publication, I never stopped thinking about everything this little block could do.

And now it’s back! I’ve been playing with fresh layouts and couldn’t wait to share them with you. In this new tutorial I’m walking you through 2 ways to make the block — traditional piecing and foundation piecing — so you can choose the method that works best for you.
