Get ready for a fun scrappy quilting project with a quarter log cabin block!
What you’ll need
- Center piece: Start with a square or rectangular fabric for the center. Use a charm square, a leftover from another project, or something sentimental.
- Strips: Collect fabric strips in different widths and lengths. Embrace variety to give your quilt a unique scrappy look.
Step-by-step guide
- Choose your center: Pick a focal fabric for the center.
- Prepare your strips: Cut strips of varying widths (1 to 2 inches).
- Start assembling: Sew a strip to one side of the center, pressing seams towards the strip. Keep adding strips around the center.
- Continue adding strips: Keep building up layers for a beautiful, layered effect.
- Size matters: Stop when you reach your preferred size; 11 ½ inches is a good starting point.
Tips for success
- Enjoy the process: Embrace imperfections and the mix-matched fabric look.
- Play with colours: Choose a colour theme or let the colours run wild.
- Experiment: Try adding embellishments or decorative stitches.

I love the quarter log cabin block — I think I will make that one soon. I love the look of somewhat controlled scrappiness and wonkiness.
