How to make a Hearts garland

Heart garland

For Valentine’s Day, I created a set of three foundation piecing templates, each measuring 3″ x 3″. I turned these templates into a lovely garland that can add a festive touch to your home.

For the garland, I made two hearts for each design. One heart has a dark background, while the other has a light background. This mix of colors not only makes the garland interesting but also allows it to match different styles and decorations.

The video shows how I turned these blocks into cute ornaments. It walks you through the process of making the heart shapes and attaching them to the garland. This project is easy and fun, making it a great way to celebrate love and creativity this Valentine’s Day.

Make the garland

To make the blocks into ornaments, cut a square the same size as the block and place the block and square right sides together.

Place a piece of ribbon folded in half between the square and the block where you will hang the ornament, with the ribbon edges facing the edges of the square.

Then sew around the square with a 1/4″ seam allowance, leaving a 1 1/2″ opening to turn the bag inside out.

Fill with polyfill.

When filled, use a ladder stitch to close the opening.

You can find details of the above in the video.

Some recommendations

I used regular copy paper, but you may find it to be a bit thick. You can use special paper for foundation piecing if you prefer.

Note: I’ve been using an Add-a-Quarter ruler for a while, the yellow ruler in the video, after some followers recommended it, and I have to say it’s a true time-saver.
