Getting ready for Valentine’s Day

I think you’ll love either of these two heart projects. I had a lot of fun creating both of them.

For the garland I made 2 hearts of each design, one with a dark background and the other one with a light background.

The video demonstrates how I turned the blocks into little ornaments.

Template

• Miniature heart templates
  This download is for 3 foundation piecing heart templates.

To make the blocks into ornaments, cut a square the same size as the block, place block and square right sides placing together.

Place a piece of ribbon folded in half between the square and the block where you will hang the ornament with the ribbon edges facing the edges of the square.

Then sew around the square with a 1/4″ seam allowance leaving a 1 1/2″ opening to turn the bag inside out.

Fill with polyfill.

When filled use a ladder stitch to close the opening.

Heart mini quilt

This heart block is quite popular and it’s also very easy to make.

If you’ve never done foundation paper piecing (FPP) follow the video step by step without over analysing and you’ll find it’s quite simple to do.

Mini quilt

Turn the block into a mini quilt or wall hanging by adding a 4″ border.

Right and left borders

Cut 2 strips, 4 1/2″ x 9 1/2″.

Top and bottom borders

Cut 2 strips, 4 1/2′ X 17 1/2″.

Tip: Pair the mini quilt with a pillow.

Some recommendations

I used regular copy paper but you may find it to be a bit thick. You can use special paper for foundation piecing if you prefer.

Note: I can’t live without my Add a quarter ruler, the yellow ruler in the video. I totally recommend it.
