The Summer yin yang pattern is now on my Etsy shop.
The quilt is 44″ x 50″.
I made Summer Yin Yang with mixed techniques.
I used foundation piecing for the small dials and traditional piecing for the large New York beauty blocks. Overall it’s a quick and fun quilt to make too.
A bit of skill is required to sew the smaller dials -that’s where the intermediate level rating comes from.

How to sew curves
The video below demonstrates some of the sewing skills you’ll need. The Summer Yin Yang dials are the same size as the pickle dish block but the pickle dish is trickier as it has 2 curves with one orange peel in the middle which is more fiddly than just a dial.

My book Turnabout Patchwork
“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.
Buy individual chapters of my book
Now that my publisher is going out of business I have bought the rights to publish my book. Now you can download individual chapters. Each digital download is a bundle with 4 quilt patterns in it.
As well as the instructions and fabric needs to make the blocks you’ll find a section on quiltmaking basics at the end of the pattern that discusses:
- Tools
- Squaring up blocks
- Borders
- Assembly and quilting
- Binding
