english paper piecing epp

Top stitched hexies video tutorial

This hexies project is a bit different. Instead of sewing the hexies together you topstitch them to a piece of fabric and batting.

Let’s learn how to top stitch hexies

English paper piecing (EPP)

There’re only 3 steps to start doing English paper piecing:

  1. Download the hexagon template (google doc).
  2. Print the required size  (this project uses the 1 inch pattern) on thick or plain paper – I used plain printer paper.
  3. Cut the patterns and get sewing

Two important points to make:

  1. Before printing make sure you’re printing at 100% to avoid surprises.
  2. Leave the paper template in until you have finished sewing all  hexies together

My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

  1. Very cool! Thanks for this. I have a bag of hexies all cut out but haven’t seen any instructions online that encourage me to do anything with them. Your video helps–a lot!
