I came across this great tutorial for a split star by Stash Bee and I couldn’t resist putting it to work.
This tutorial not only teaches you how to make this great block but also it teaches you to make half square triangles and flying geese at the same time. It’s certainly a skill booster.
Fabric on the video
- Michael Miller’s Cotton couture in purple
- Tula Pink’s Hipnotized circles in Sorbet.
My book Turnabout Patchwork
“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

Have you made any of my quilts or tutorials?
If you make any of my tutorials and upload pictures to Instagram please tag me with @teresadownunder on private message me in Facebook with some photos and I’ll post them for everyone to see!

I’ll be back when the political adds end. I’m largely off Facebook for the same reason. I’ll miss your clever videos.

I love this tutorial! I think it keeps everything simple and direct. Great instructions. But I am missing the fabric needed for the quilts. Could you assist with that please?

Hi Susan, there’re some tools that may help you calculate the fabric needs based on the size of quilt you want to make http://www.quiltersparadiseesc.com/Calculators.php
