Quilt-as-you-go without sashing – Turnabout patchwork QAL

This week we’ll assemble the blocks into a quilt top.

Follow the instructions on page 23 of Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist to assemble the quilt top.

Assembling the quilt top

This QAYG technique is kind of half way between regular quilting and QAYG because the backing is added in one piece. But the backing is added with few stitching lines making it still an easier assembly method if you don’t have a long arm quilt.

Fabric recommendations for this quilt

I love Valori Wells Murmur collection. And I love anything Bonnie and Camille. And to honour the name of the quilt, what about the Metallic Ombre Confetti fabric collection by V and Co,

  1. Hi Bonnie, I don’t know where in Australia you can buy the book. In some public libraries if you ask for a book they don’t have sometimes they purchase it for their catalogue.

  2. Thanks for the video. I wondered how the QAYG without sashing was going to work. I like a little more quilting through the backing, so I think I’ll just quilt regularly. I love this block!

    1. You can decide how much quilting you do too. I only did a quick demo, I could have done a grid too and it would be stronger.

  3. Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I am new to quilting. Can’t wait to try this method. I would of like to see how you finished off the quilt. Binding it showing how you did the corners.
