I received a copy of Quilt-as-you-go made modern by Jera Brandvig.
While I have tried some of the QAYG techniques before – see video below – the book is very thorough and detailed. Jera not only describes the technique but she also offers alternatives to the basic block by block quilting.
The book also has lots of diagrams that make it particularly easy to follow the patterns.
To top it all up you get to try the techniques in 13 different projects.
For instance this video demonstrates two similar techniques in the book that Jera turns into 2 beautiful quilts.
Many of the projects use strips of fabric and are perfect for fabric scraps but she also has one very clever pattern for an Ohio star you’d have trouble guessing it was done as QAYG. And by extension you could apply the same technique to other traditional blocks.
If you want to try QAYG this book is a good addition to your library.
My book Turnabout Patchwork
“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.
