Mysteries Down Under is my first mystery quilt and it started on 19 August.
I won’t reveal the full quilt until the end so the mystery remains throughout the project.
The tutorials for this quilt will be released over the next few weeks. The tutorials can be used to make the quilt but can be used independently as well.
I’ve used a number of techniques in the tutorials. If you find some techniques too hard you can always replace the block with another 6″ block from the quilt.
Quilt details
Sill level: confident beginner.
Blocks: 42 blocks (5 x 7 plus a 5″ border).
Finished block size: 6″ x 6″.
Quilt size: 53″ x 60″.
If you make your quilt scrappy like me you don’t need to worry about fabric needs.

My book Turnabout Patchwork
“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.
Buy individual chapters of my book
Now that my publisher is going out of business I have bought the rights to publish my book. Now you can download individual chapters. Each digital download is a bundle with 4 quilt patterns in it.
As well as the instructions and fabric needs to make the blocks you’ll find a section on quiltmaking basics at the end of the pattern that discusses:
- Tools
- Squaring up blocks
- Borders
- Assembly and quilting
- Binding
See all the quilts in the book in a real life project

Hi Teresa, I just love your tutorials and have saved them since I found you about 12 months ago. I am so looking forward to your latest on 19th Aug. I will be in UK then until late September so can’t wait to get back and read everything. I am still trying to finish one of your tutes in a large king size quilt, but will send you a pic as soon as it is finished. cheers Ria

I ordered your book from Amazon the minute I saw your first post. I am so excited about it. I value your tutorials. Thanks so much.

I find your tutorials extremely helpful and lighthearted. They’ve given me loads of ideas. Unfortunately, the garden beckons at this time of the year and so I won’t be able to try them out until later in the year.

This will be my first mystery quilt. The fabric and yardage list you have provided is quite specific. Is there a fabric kit that needs to be purchased?

Most weeks I will publish one block tutorial towards the quilt, other weeks I will post two mystery quilt tutorials..

I tried ordering your book on Amazon and it said if I ordered $25 or more I would get free shipping. So I added another item. It did not give me free shipping. I’m disappointed. I’d rather order from you and give you the shipping cost.

Thank you Nancy. Unfortunately I don’t sell the book directly. The publisher deals with all of that. I don’t know what other book sellers will carry it but when I know I’ll do a post about it.

How long will this last? How long will it be available? I have nothing to download to, just a kindle with not enough memory & no printer access until mid Oct. Love it….thanks….
