The Tennessee Waltz quilt is the combination of a 54-40 or Fight block and a Monkey Wrench block. When put together, the blocks create a beautiful illusion of curves and flowing movement across the quilt, even though the design is made entirely from straight seams and traditional patchwork techniques.
This classic quilt layout is a wonderful example of how simple traditional blocks can combine to create a striking secondary design. Careful colour placement and contrast help enhance the curved effect, giving the quilt its graceful “waltzing” appearance.
