Today, I’m going to show you how sewing a fan block can be much easier than it seems!
This 9″ x 9″ fan block is traditionally pieced, and its larger size makes sewing the curves a breeze—even if you’re new to curved piecing.
The fan block is part of my quilt pattern Wheels, a modern and dynamic design that I thoroughly enjoyed creating. The quilt features eight fan blocks arranged into two striking large circles, giving it a unique and contemporary look.
What’s more, Wheels is fat quarter friendly! I used a beautiful fat quarter pack similar to this autumn colours fat quarter bundle, but you can use your favourite fat quarter bundle to make it your own. See below some suggestions.
Ready to see how these fan blocks come together? Let’s get started with the step-by-step process:
Quilt details
Quilt size: 48” x 48”
Finished block sizes: 6” x 6”, 6” x 9”, and 9” x 9”
Number of blocks: 36 blocks (arranged in 6 columns x 6 rows)
The blocks are traditionally pieced, and the pattern includes two fan templates to help you create the design with ease.
Looking for inspiration? The pattern also features alternative colour schemes, so you can customise the quilt to match your style.
