I made this video tutorial to show how easy it is to make flange binding and to finish the quilt for my book tour QAL.
The fabric requirements for the binding are listed on page 23 of my book, Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist.
You can, of course, make the binding the traditional way, but if you’d like to try something a bit different, faux piping(also called a flange) adds a lovely finishing touch to any quilt.

OMG!! I just made a binding similar to this, (did not know what to call it) because of the need to correct an error I made. Wish I had this post earlier; would have made life easier. I made a 4 1/2 binder; it was stunning. But my intention was to make the regular 1 1/2 binding. These instructions are so easy. I like the look. I will incorporate this type of binding in all my projects. BTW, the project was a “bath mat”. Love all you do. Thanks, Teresa.

So glad you figured out a way to make it work — and a 4½” binding on a bath mat sounds like a happy accident 😄 I love when those turns out better than planned.
And yes, once you see how this method works, it’s hard to go back — it’s simple and gives such a clean finish.
