Star and cross – Morocco series – block 1 – video tutorialmo

Today I’m starting a new series of blocks that will capture my experience while living in Morocco.

My plan is to replicate as many patterns as I can.  Some are very  complex so I may resort to using English Paper Piecing.

Well, that’s the plan. Let’s see if I can stick to it!

Star and Cross is a pattern you can see all around Morocco.  This is how I made it:

If interested in geometry, this is a drawing of the pattern. Source.

My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

Buy individual chapters of my book

Now that my publisher is going out of business I have bought the rights to publish my book. Now you can download individual chapters. Each digital download is a bundle with 4 quilt patterns in it.

As well as the instructions and fabric needs to make the blocks you’ll find a section on quiltmaking basics at the end of the pattern that discusses:

  • Tools
  • Squaring up blocks
  • Borders
  • Assembly and quilting
  • Binding

See all the quilts in the book in a real life project

  4. Hi Theresa. This has to be one of my favorite videos. I made something very similar a couple of years ago, but your sewing/chain piecing technique is wonderfully clear and easier. Anxious to try it again. Thanks so much for sharing all you do.
