How to make a 3” sawtooth star block

3 inch sawtooth star block

I love star blocks, so this one had to be part of my collection! In today’s video, I’ll show you how to make it using foundation piecing. For small blocks like this, I find foundation piecing gives much more accurate results than traditional piecing.

I used regular copy paper for my foundations, though you might find it a bit thick. If you prefer to piece it the traditional way, templates are available in my Etsy shop.

You can use special paper for foundation piecing if you prefer.

Let’s get to it!

Note: I recently started using an Add a quarter ruler — the yellow ruler in the video — after some followers recommended it, and I have to say it’s a true time saver.

This block is part of my Tiny Quilt project — a miniature quilt or pillow.

Blocks can be made with traditional piecing or with foundation piecing.
