Creative ways to repurpose fabric scraps

How to use your fabric scraps

Got a pile of fabric scraps that’s too pretty to toss? Here are two modern ways to put them to good use!

Both of these blocks are quick to make and perfect for turning leftover strips or larger pieces into something fresh and colourful. The first block uses a diagonal strip of patchwork that cuts across a solid background, creating a bold and modern look. The second block takes a vertical approach, framing a strip of pieced scraps between two solid sections for a clean, graphic design.

You can mix bright prints, soft pastels, or coordinated colour families—whatever scraps you have on hand will work beautifully. These blocks are a fun way to play with contrast, colour, and texture while making a dent in your scrap pile.

Use them on their own for placemats or cushions, or combine several to make a striking modern quilt. Simple, satisfying, and a great excuse to sew from your stash!
