In this week’s tutorial, I’m revisiting a favourite technique—Turnabout Patchwork—, again. This time I’m using a simple twist that creates a whole new look.
This technique is seriously one of my top favorites, and I’m always excited to share how much I believe in it—so much that I even wrote a book about it!
A few weeks ago, I shared a version of this block using two print fabric strips 2 1/2” wide. This time, I’ve inverted those strips, swapping the prints for white fabric while keeping everything else the same. It’s a small change, but it makes a surprising difference in the final design.
That’s what I love about this technique—small adjustments can completely transform a block. Whether it’s shifting colors, flipping fabric placement, or experimenting with layouts, every variation opens up new creative possibilities.
This tutorial builds on the same playful approach as before, encouraging you to explore the “what ifs?” of quilting. It’s about embracing experimentation, discovering unexpected results, and having fun along the way. Let’s see how this simple fabric swap changes the block and what new design ideas it might spark for you!
