Learn Marci Baker’s technique to make easy tumbling blocks

How to make tumbling blocks

Today, I’m excited to share one of my most popular tutorials—a quick and easy way to create stunning tumbling blocks using strips sewn together. This method not only simplifies the process but allows you to achieve impressive results without the hassle of complex techniques.

The tumbling block technique I demonstrate in the video was developed by the talented Marci Baker. Her book, ABC 3-D Tumbling Blocks and More, provides detailed written directions and features 16 delightful projects that you can tackle, making it a fantastic resource for both beginners and experienced quilters alike.

One of the standout benefits of this technique is that you won’t encounter any Y seams. That’s right—no more struggling with those tricky seams that can often make or break your projects! Instead, you’ll find this method not only approachable but also enjoyable.

In less than 3 minutes, you’ll learn how to create beautiful baby blocks without the stress of Y seams.

Happy sewing!

Ruler

You will need either a 60-degree ruler or a square ruler that includes 60-degree markings. To get comfortable with this technique, I recommend downloading my paper ruler/template for practice prior to starting.

If your ruler has built-in 60-degree lines, you can confidently use those for making accurate cuts at a 60-degree angle.

And here is the explanation by its creator Marci Baker.
