I used Loklik for quilting – here’s how it went

If you already have a handmade business — or you’re thinking about starting one — and want to sell EPP kits or templates, you’ve probably run into one problem: cutting.

Curves, points, diamonds… they’re hard to do by hand, slow to produce, and difficult to keep consistent across lots of templates.

Loklik recently sent me their iCraft cutting machine to try out and review from a small business point of view. I tested how it performs when cutting EPP templates as well as custom cardboard rulers and templates, and how it fits into a home-based maker setup.

Want to see how it works?

In my video tutorial below, I show you how to design a set of diamond and curved EPP templates using the software, send it to print, and cut it all out with the Loklik iCraft — cleanly, quickly, and silently.

Design templates in minutes

The included software is simple to use, even if you’re not a designer. You choose a shape, set the size, create a grid layout, and you’re ready to cut – I demonstrate on the video below. It works for all the usual EPP shapes — diamonds, hexies, curves, even unusual angles.

Need a full sheet of 60° diamonds? Want to experiment with curves or custom templates? You can set it up in just a few clicks.

Accurate cuts — even for tricky shapes

This is where the iCraft stands out. The cuts are clean, repeatable, and spot-on — even on narrow points and tight curves.

That matters when you’re selling to customers who expect precision.

Fast and quiet — ideal for home use

The machine runs quietly — no loud cutting noise, no stress. You can use it in the evening or during work hours without disrupting your space.

And it’s fast. You can cut a full page of templates in just a couple of minutes.

Sell more than just EPP templates

If you’re selling EPP templates, you can do a lot more with this setup:

  • Pre-cut fabric shapes — Many customers want the fabric pieces ready to go, especially with curves. I have to admit I haven’t tried cutting fabric but it cuts felt so it should also cut fabric easily.
  • Custom cardboard rulers — You can offer templates with special angles or hard-to-find shapes.
  • Full starter kits — Combine shapes, templates, and fabric into ready-to-sell bundles.

It’s not just about saving time — it’s about expanding what you can offer in your small business.

A good option for new and growing small businesses

I haven’t used any other cutting machines before, so I can’t compare directly — but I’ve been genuinely impressed with how easy and efficient the Loklik iCraft is to use. And it’s a lot more affordable than some other options out there. For quilters especially, it does the job well without needing to buy extra tools or accessories.
