The Mayflower quilt block – video tutorial

You  can make a Double cross in different ways but this one is probably one of the easiest.

I hope you enjoy it and see the potential of this easy quilt block.

My book Turnabout Patchwork

“Turnabout Patchwork. Simple quilts with a twist” is all about playing with blocks – making a block, slicing it up, and turning or repositioning the pieces to make a completely different block (sometimes two smaller blocks) to yield endless quilt tops.

These 3 disappearing blocks start with a nine patch quilt block that goes through 3 rounds of cutting and slicing.

After each slicing and turning, we get a new block.

It’s fun to watch and fun do make.

Let’s learn how to make these 3 blocks.

Which one do you like best?

Half rectangles with 2 fabrics – video tutorial

This is a fun block to make. There’re no points to match and you can get creative with the use of fabrics and even turn this quilt into a scrappy quilt.

Let’s start.

Fabrics

The fabrics I used are by Nerida Hansen. The fabrics are 100% GOTS certified organic cotton printed with low impact dyes.

Star and cross – Morocco series – block 1 – video tutorial

Today I’m starting a new series of blocks that will capture my experience while living in Morocco.

My plan is to replicate as many patterns as I can.  Some are very  complex so I may resort to using English Paper Piecing.

Well, that’s the plan. Let’s see if I can stick to it!

Star and Cross is a pattern you can see all around Morocco.  This is how I made it:

If interested in geometry, this is a drawing of the pattern. Source.
