Tips for making this block
Choose your fabrics carefully. Choose high contrasting fabrics.
Placement of 5 inch squares is important. Choose your colours and values with the following in mind:
- the middle square will become the small dots in the resulting block
- the squares in the middle of the 9 patch original block, the ones in a cross pattern, will be sliced in half and become the strips in the resulting block

The black,gray,red,pink 9 patch is very pretty. I’ve done a few 9 patch and am always looking for something different and this one fits the bill!!! Very pretty.

How did you bind the one that doesn’t have sashing?

That’s only a mockup. But if I was going to bind it I would do flange binding (check out my tutorial) with a red flange and a charcoal or white binding strip.

Hi Sonia, blue and yellow is a very good combination. Orange and blue is another good combination. Any complimentary colours are good. When in doubt I like to use a colour wheel. Check this one https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/ out. From the Color Rule pull down on the left select “Complementary” and play with the handles. It’s fun! “Triad” is a good option too.
